Replenishing Care

Like a fish on dry land!

I will never forget the morning I sat in my hospital room, needing a break from the food (sorry Eastern Health!) and realized I would need a wheelchair to escape to the Tim Horton’s in the lobby.

I was 40 years old at the time:

- in about 30 days I had gone from running 50 miles per week to not being able to stand for 50 seconds.

-I had Guillain Barre Syndrome (and I would learn later) doctors feared I would have it long-term.

Yet 9 months later I ran my only 26.2 mile marathon. Everyone rejoiced except me: I knew there were things happening in my body (by then I’d been in there for 41 years after all) that were not the same as before my illness. However, when I returned to the remarkable medical team that had (in my heart) saved my life looking for full recovery, I found no answers. An internist I was referred to seemed to describe my circumstance best: I should think of my peripheral nerves as electrical wires that have been cut, spliced back together and wrapped in duct tape: they will work, but never the same.

9 YEARS later I did rejoice. It was the day I was first treated with high-powered Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) therapy. I had been given a very simple explanation:

- PEMF works like a battery charger for cells;

- cells that are under-powered (due to illness, age, injury, even exercise) attract the energy to them and constrict, force toxins out and the energy in;

- cells that are fully-charged will allow the energy to pass by.

I was also told that as PEMF works, I should expect my body to twitch in the areas needing it. True to form, when the PEMF applicator coil was placed on my upper body I had noticeable but not dramatic response; but when the coil was placed on my legs (most affected by Guillain Barre) it was LIKE WATCHING A FISH ON DRY LAND. I knew then and there PEMF was part MY formula for full-recovery. It was the first time in 9 years something or someone “got” what I was trying to explain.

Best of all, 18 years after my “trip to Tim Horton’s in a wheelchair” I finished first in my age category in a 5K road race in Toronto with 700+ participants.

It is said: things happen FOR not “to” us. My Guillain Barre experience was a blessing that not only defined my life – but likely saved it.

Kindest regards

James
